LaB #1: Linux after Biotech

What this newsletter is about

What this newsletter is about

My educational background is in the life sciences — a B.Sc in Biochemistry from PSGCAS and M.Sc in Biotechnology from MKU.

After graduation, I worked as a Lecturer for 4 years teaching Biotechnology and Bioinformatics for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Towards the end of 2007, I got the opportunity to join a research group in Ireland as a “Research Program Manager”. The work involved installing and managing Linux servers, software, websites, and databases, programming in Python, and general project management. Since then, I have worked in various research groups and companies providing support for their Bioinformatics computing needs.

I’m primarily self-taught and do not have a formal degree in Computer Science or IT. In this newsletter, I would like share the steps I followed to learn Linux and programming with relevance to Bioinformatics, with the hope that someone will find it useful.
